With the introduction of smartphones, the use of mobile apps has increased over the years. And each day you see a new application emerge on your screen. The question, however, is which apps do people prefer using? According to reports by ReCode, there are few shockers when it comes to the most admired apps in the world. Huge companies like Google, Facebook and Twitter have dominated global app downloads thus far in 2016 with Facebook owning four of the five most downloaded apps in the world.

WhatsApp Messenger is a proprietary, encrypted instant messaging client for smartphones. It uses the Internet to send text messages, documents, images, video, user location and audio messages to other users using cell numbers.
As of February 2016, WhatsApp had a user base of one billion, making it the most popular messaging application.

The prototype for Snapchat was started by Brown and Spiegel as a project for one of Spiegel’s classes at Stanford, where Spiegel was a product design major. Beginning under the name “Picaboo”, the idea was for users to communicate using images that were explicitly short-lived.
Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them either publicly or privately on the app, as well as through a variety of other social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr.
Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and launched in October 2010 as a free mobile app. The service rapidly gained popularity, with over 100 million active users as of April 2012 and over 300 million as of December 2014. It is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
YouTube is an American video-sharing website headquartered in San Bruno, California, United States. The service was created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005. In November 2006, it was bought by Google for US$1.65 billion. YouTube now operates as one of Google’s subsidiaries.
Most of the content on YouTube has been uploaded by individuals, but media corporations including CBS, the BBC, Vevo, Hulu and other organizations offer some of their material via YouTube, as part of the YouTube partnership program. Unregistered users can watch videos, and registered users are permitted to upload an unlimited number of videos and add comments to videos.
Uber Technologies Inc. is an American multinational online transportation network company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It develops markets and operates the Uber mobile app, which allows consumers with smartphones to submit a trip request, which the software program then automatically sends to the Uber driver nearest to the consumer, alerting the driver to the location of the customer. Uber drivers use their own personal cars. As of August 2016, the service was available in over 66 countries and 507 cities worldwide. Also the Uber app automatically calculates the fare and transfers the payment to the driver.
Spotify is a Swedish music, podcast and video streaming service that provides digital rights management–protected content from record labels and media companies. It is available in most of the Americas, Europe and some countries in Asia and Oceania. Music can be browsed or searched by artist, album, genre, playlist, and record label. Spotify was launched since September 2008 by Swedish startup Spotify AB. As of August 2016, Spotify had more than 100 million active users and about half a billion registered users
Twitter is an online social networking service that enables users to send and read short 140-character messages called “tweets”. Registered users can read and post tweets, but those who are unregistered can only read them. Users access Twitter through the website interface, SMS or mobile device app. Twitter Inc. is based in San Francisco and has more than 25 offices around the world.

Netflix Inc. is an American multinational entertainment company founded on August 29, 1997 in Scotts Valley, California by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph. It specializes in and provides streaming media and video on demand online and DVD by mail. In 2013, Netflix added film and television production, as well as online distribution. The company is currently headquartered in Los Gatos.
As of July 2016, Netflix reported over 83 million paid subscribers worldwide, including more than 47 million in the United States.
